The Power to Empower

This past weekend my company held their annual convention.  I wasn’t able to attend in person but was able to watch the entire convention virtually.  How cool is that?  The theme of the convention was “The Power to Empower.”  I came out of this weekend so empowered that I had to share with you.  I don’t normally talk much about my skincare business on the blog, but this weekend enforced that this is so much more than skincare.

There were so many takeaways but the main two I’d love to share with you are how amazing our company is and how empowering we all can be.

The Business

Ten years ago two female doctors created breakthrough products that have completely disrupted the skincare market by creating personalized skincare regimens. Plus they use an innovative approach to get them into the hands of customers.

Innovation

This company is innovative in our products, distribution channels, and in how we give back.  Innovating new breakthrough products every year that deliver dermatological results to your home, we have been able to drive growth.  In fact, our revenue grew 84% last year, while many other traditional skincare brands were only growing 2-5%.  We were also able to reach 1 billion dollars in sales in 2016.  That’s something that doesn’t typically happen to companies this young.

Through a partnership with extremely intelligent individuals (like you and me!), the company is able to share how our products are truly life-changing.  Not only transforming skin into the best skin our customers have ever had, but also transforming the lives of those who share the products.

We’ve also been innovative in using social media to raise money towards our non-profit The Prescription for Change Foundation.  In just four days this past weekend, we were able to raise over 1.4 million dollars for the foundation.  Just incredible!

Global Expansion

I love that we aren’t just expanding globally because we can, but doing so in such a thoughtful manner.  We’re currently in three countries, the US, Canada, and most recently Australia with plans to grow even more.  The company is committed to grow to countries that have skin involved customers, people that are tech savvy, and ensuring the right products are available for the customers in that region.

Consumer Connected Commerce

What is consumer connected commerce?  When is the last time you went to Facebook to get a recommendation on a product?  You may not have realized it, but that is consumer connected commerce.  Getting recommendations from family and friends is the new normal for purchasing practically anything.

In this company we leverage social and digital tools to show real life results.  All just by sharing our stories and experience with the business and the products.  Sharing in this way delivers such a personalized touch to our customers experiences.

The Power to Empower Yourself and Others

Now, one of the most motivating parts of convention for me was hearing so much about female CEO’s, female salespeople, and how females are building a life they never thought possible by partnering with our Doctors.

It was amazing to see how many people are dreaming big and empowering others.  How do we empower others?  We can give others the gift of their own business which could create financial freedom, time freedom, or the ability to give beyond your imagination.

I’ve always dreamed of owning my own successful business, and through this company I do!  I am my own CEO and don’t have to answer to anyone else.

I love the exercise that our female CEO did and asked everyone to picture a CEO.  Most people pictured a man in a suit.  What did you picture?  Did you know that there are only 27 female CEO’s of the top 500 US companies?  That number is far too low in my opinion.

So, I’m changing the picture of a CEO through owning my own business and sharing the opportunity for other women to own their own business too.

It’s time to stop being litter girls with dreams and become women with vision and confidence.  It’s time to start seeing grand things for ourselves.

And in the words of Oprah, “create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life. Because you become what you believe.”

Hosting a Direct Sales Party and Growing a Business

Do you have friends that are in Direct Sales?  I’m sure you do.  These days it seems everyone is trying to earn a little more, reach goals, and build an empire.  Once I started in direct sales, I had a new appreciation for anyone else that is in direct sales.  I recently hosted a party for a jewelry company. A friend I met through attending one of these parties is working her business to pay off medical bills from her son’s numerous trips to the hospital.

That’s the thing with direct sales.  Your friend that is selling is probably trying to pay for something really important, or contribute to the family so there can be more family time.  That’s been my biggest realization with Rodan and Fields, we’re all just people trying to do what’s best and we believe in what we’re selling.  It’s not about trying to get all of our friend’s money, it’s about sharing products we love and helping our families.

Jewelry DisplaySo, as I was saying, the jewelry party.  I met the jeweler through another friend and really liked how versatile the jewelry is.  You can wear things long, short, flip them around for a different color/look, it’s like getting three pieces in one!  Here’s how I recommend hosting a jewelry party, or any direct sales party for that matter.

1. Invite a Lot of People

Be sure to invite more people than you think will come.  Typically for this type of party, there is a 4 to 1 ratio.  So if you invite four people, it’s likely that only one of them is going to show up.  With that in mind, be sure to invite everyone.  Coworkers, neighbors, friends, church members, and encourage your guests to bring a friend.  It also helps to send several reminders leading up to your party.  Get them excited about the party with information on the products.

2. Communicate with the Seller

Confirm with the seller what the party will entail.  Will there be a formal presentation?  Do they need table space? Do they need any audio/visual equipment?  How long will the party or presentation be?  Typically most sellers will give you all of this information right up front, but as you’re planning your party make sure you are prepared for what they need and to make it the best possible party for them and your guests.  All we needed for my jewelry party was some table space and a short informal presentation of the jewelry.  The jeweler brought everything with her and set it all up.

Jewelry DisplayOne thing to take into account is lighting.  After the sun went down, my living room got a lot darker than I realized so I had to bring in another lamp to make sure we could see everything well.

3. Food/Snacks/Drinks

It always helps when hosting these parties to include some sort of snacks and drinks.  My jewelry party was hosted after dinner so I provided some snacks, sweets, and drinks.  I made a specialty pink cocktail since this was a girly type of party.

I offered a variety of cheeses, my Perfect Little Appetizers, and some sweets.  One thing I did notice was that everyone seemed to gravitate towards the sweets.  I think maybe because my party was after dinner, people were already full and didn’t need as many snacks.  So be sure to take into account the time of your party and gear your snacks towards that.  In hindsight, having just a variety of desserts may have been better.

Cheese PlateThis fruit dip was a big success!  Everyone seemed to love it, and I could probably just eat it with a spoon!

The recipe I linked is pretty close to the one I used, except mine had two cups of powdered sugar instead of one.  Basically, it’s all sugar, but delicious!

Sweet TreatsThree easy steps to hosting a jewelry party, or any direct sales party is all it takes.  Initially you may think it’s a pain to host a direct sales party, but it’s actually a pretty fun night, and you’re helping someone grow their business.  What’s better than that?

My New Rodan and Fields Adventure

Happy Monday friends, first I want to say a big thanks to all of you that helped me to surpass my goal of 200 likes on The Daily Hostess Facebook page!  You guys rock!  I’m working hard to finish up the FREE printable party pack and I hope to have it for you guys by the end of the week!  There will be lots of goodies in there for you to throw your own celebration!
