Monthly Goals and Tips to Achieving Them

Goals ListIt’s July 1st already, and I know you’re only thinking about eating all kinds of BBQ and watching fireworks this weekend.  However, the first of the month is pretty important.  It’s a great time to set some goals!

I like to take some time to set goals at the beginning of each month, and even each week.  Spending some time to think about what you want to accomplish and how to do it gives you a much better chance at actually accomplishing your goals.

This month I have three sections of goals.  A list for my personal goals, one for the blog, and one for my Rodan and Fields skin care business.  Because I have a lot of things I’m trying to accomplish, it helps me to write them down, organized in their own sections.

Goals ListI have some pretty lofty goals so I am going to be working hard and hustling to try and reach them.  My goal list is black and white, so there isn’t any grey area as to what I need to do.

I recently listened to a training that talked about goals.  In the training, it was said that if you are doing activity everyday towards your goals then you’ll reach them.  Based on that training, I tried to focus on what activity and how much I was going to be doing to reach my goals.  This month is also very busy with traveling, guests, birthdays, and holidays so making my goals specific is going to help me in staying focused.

Goal Setting Tips

  • Make your goals more attractive by making them pretty.  Decorate your goal list, doodle on it, use fun colors.  Spending a couple more minutes making it look nice will give you more time to really think about your goals and how you’re going to achieve them.
  • Be sure to display them where you will see them everyday; in your calendar, on your bathroom mirror or taped to the edge of your computer. If you took a few extra minutes to make them pretty you will want them to be out in the open.
  • This tip is used quite a bit, but make your goals SMART. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely.
  • Check in with your goals each week and see if you are doing what needs to be done to reach them by the end of the month.

Goasl ListLike I said before, I have some lofty goals this month, but hopefully putting them out on the internet will be the motivation I need to cross every one of them off of my list.  Be sure to send some good vibes my way this month as I work towards my goals.  I may just post at the end of the month how successful I was completing the list.

Do you make a goal list every month?  What’s your biggest tip to achieving them?  Have a great 4th of July weekend!

April Showers….

It’s almost the end of April already, and our forecast is looking like quite a lot of rain in the future.  If it’s raining outside, why not make where it rains inside a little more festive?  I’m talking about your showers!  Here’s a quick and easy way to make your daily shower more of a spa like experience.

April Shower HerbsTake a few herbs or flowers that are fragrant, tie them up, and hang them in your shower.  The steam and heat from the water will make your shower smell amazing!

All you have to do is wrap a little twine, string, or heck even some ribbon tightly around the stems, add a loop (make sure it’s big enough to fit over your shower head), hang it in your shower and turn the water on.  Talk about an easy way to feel like you’re at the spa.

April Shower HerbsI used a combination of sage, rosemary, and mint because those were the herbs I had on hand at the time.  But lots of things would be great additions, try a branch of lilac or lavender, or add in thyme, dill, or basil.  This would be a great addition to the shower when you have guests visiting too.  Or husbands, do this for your wives. Light her favorite candle and let her take a long uninterrupted shower for Mother’s Day, I’m sure she’d appreciate it.

April Shower HerbsThis blog is all about inspiring you to celebrate every day, and showering is something you’re probably doing every day (no judgement if you skip a day), so why not make it a little more special?  Add this herb bundle to your shower experience or light a candle, but doing something that elevates your normal every day routine will make your day seem different and memorable.  Plus, it only takes a few minutes to do it.  I bundled up these herbs in about three minutes, but enjoyed them the entire time I was in the shower!

April Shower HerbsAll it takes is a couple minutes, a few fragrant herbs, and your shower experience will go from required and necessary, to fun, fragrant, and enjoyable.  Let me know what your favorite smelling herbs are in the comments below.  There may also be a follow up to this post in May, it might have something to do with flowers, you won’t want to miss it.

Also, be sure to come back later this week to see Week 4 of the One Room Challenge and the progress I’ve made.  I feel like Week 4 is where things are starting to take quite the turn toward completion!

Saturday Simple Celebrations: After Work or School Snacks

Hooray for the weekend!  Today is another Saturday Simple Celebrations, quick and easy entertaining and hosting tips to make your day a little more special. While growing up, and especially after I was engaged and married, my Grandmother always used to say that “women should put their men on a pedestal and wait on them hand and foot.”  Because I have a small feminist streak in me, I never agreed with her and always let her know that that comment was absurd.  Well, the other day I kind of did what my Grandmother always said I should.

My husband is really bad about remembering to eat throughout his work day, I don’t understand how you forget to eat, I guess I just love food too much.  I’m always thinking about it.  Anyway, because he usually forgets, he’s always starving when he gets home from work so I made a little snack that was different than his normal chips and salsa and had it waiting for him when he came through the door.  I was really surprised at how excited he was when he saw snacks already ready for him. It was kind of cute actually.

After School SnacksAll I did for this 3 minute snack was line some Triscuit’s up and plop a little goat cheese on top of them.  More specifically, I used the Sweet Potato and Sea Salt Triscuit’s which give the snack a little sweetness along with the saltiness.

After School SnacksI guess Grandma was right, at least a little bit.  By spending only about three minutes I kind of made my husband’s day, which in turn made me happy to “wait on him hand and foot.”  Gone are the days of waiting for your husband to come home from work and pour him a drink immediately, snacks are where it’s at!  Although, who doesn’t love a little afternoon drink?  Maybe do both and everyone will be happy!

A Perfectly Portable Snack

Last night while cutting up celery for dinner I thought I would go ahead and cut up some for a snack since I’ll be out of the house doing Navy Reserve work for the next couple of days.  After cutting it up I wished I had an easy way to pack some peanut butter with the celery and then realized that one of my peanut butter containers was almost empty.  I then had a stroke of genius about how to combine this classic combination of celery and peanut butter.

How about just sticking the celery into the almost empty peanut butter container?  Genius!  And talk about reducing and reusing!  Just be sure to cut the celery to the same height as the peanut butter container so it fits inside.

It’s now going to be so easy to throw this one container in my bag and scoop the peanut butter out with the celery during snack time.  And because I’m addicted to sugar, I also added a few chocolate chips to the container.  Yum!

Peanut Butter & Celery SnackPretty sure I’m going to thoroughly enjoy this and will feel so proud of myself for thinking of it.  I’m sure it’s been done before, but I think it’s just so smart.  What clever ways have you used empty containers around your kitchen?  Or do you have some other really cool trick? If so, share it in the comments below.

Happy Thursday everyone, and be sure to come back on Monday because I’ll be hosting my first ever giveaway!  How does a little extra cash to a trio of stores with awesome home and celebratory gear sound?  I hope you come back to enter the drawing and I’ll be crossing my fingers that you win!

Saturday Simple Celebrations: Dinner on Platters

Welcome to the first Saturday Simple Celebrations of 2016!  Saturday Simple Celebrations is a series where I share quick, easy, entertaining ideas to make everyday celebrations exceptional.  You can see all the simple celebrations here, here, and here.  For the first one of the year I’m encouraging you to serve dinner in a prettier way.  I typically cook dinner at home most nights, and that usually entails me plating straight from the stove out of the skillet or pot I cooked in, which isn’t the fanciest way to serve dinner.

The other night I mixed it up a bit and used some of our serving pieces and placed dinner on the table for us to make our own plates.  It definitely made dinner feel more special and fancy sitting down to the table with our food displayed so beautifully.  I’m also pretty sure dinner tasted better this night, maybe because of the way we served it?!

So, I’m encouraging you to get out of the rut of making plates right off of the stove and put all of those serving pieces you got from your wedding registry to use.  It is only a few more dishes to clean and because the food is only on them for a short while they clean up easily (no stuck on messes!).

How do you typically serve dinner?  From the pot on the stove or off platters on the table?  Do you feel like giving this a go at least one night next week?  I hope so, and if you do, tag a photo with the hashtag #TDHDinners on Instagram so I can see!

Celebrating everyday!
