Saturday Simple Celebrations: Dinner on Platters

Welcome to the first Saturday Simple Celebrations of 2016!  Saturday Simple Celebrations is a series where I share quick, easy, entertaining ideas to make everyday celebrations exceptional.  You can see all the simple celebrations here, here, and here.  For the first one of the year I’m encouraging you to serve dinner in a prettier way.  I typically cook dinner at home most nights, and that usually entails me plating straight from the stove out of the skillet or pot I cooked in, which isn’t the fanciest way to serve dinner.

The other night I mixed it up a bit and used some of our serving pieces and placed dinner on the table for us to make our own plates.  It definitely made dinner feel more special and fancy sitting down to the table with our food displayed so beautifully.  I’m also pretty sure dinner tasted better this night, maybe because of the way we served it?!

So, I’m encouraging you to get out of the rut of making plates right off of the stove and put all of those serving pieces you got from your wedding registry to use.  It is only a few more dishes to clean and because the food is only on them for a short while they clean up easily (no stuck on messes!).

How do you typically serve dinner?  From the pot on the stove or off platters on the table?  Do you feel like giving this a go at least one night next week?  I hope so, and if you do, tag a photo with the hashtag #TDHDinners on Instagram so I can see!

Saturday Simple Celebrations: Candlelit Dinners

Well it’s been a busy week of visiting family, packing, and traveling, so posts have been kind of light this week.  Today I wanted to do another Saturday Simple Celebrations because it’s been way too long since I’ve done one.  Saturday Simple Celebrations is a series where I share quick, easy, entertaining ideas to make everyday celebrations a little extra special.  See other simple celebration posts here and here.

This week I want to talk about making regular weeknight dinners a little more romantic.  How about lighting some candles and dining by candlelight?  I’ve added some inspiration photos below, but you don’t even have to be that elaborate, just light whatever candles you have.  Although, I’d avoid the scented ones around food, you don’t want to eat balsam scented spaghetti, haha!

After gathering all of these photos I realized I had a theme to the inspiration.  I guess greenery and white candles were really speaking to me.  So, go light some candles and turn off the lights for a little dinner romance tonight.  Have a great weekend!

Saturday Simple Celebrations: Banners

Saturday Simple Celebrations is a series where I share quick, easy, entertaining ideas to make everyday celebrations a little extra special.  See other simple celebration posts here.  What makes you feel extra special?  A small thought to show that someone cares? A surprise you weren’t expecting?  Do you want a simple idea to make anyone feel cared for and thought of on any occasion?

I recommend making a banner and surprising someone with it.  It screams “hey, I spent a little bit of time to show you that I care.”

You could make a banner for someone’s birthday, anniversary, welcome home (even if it’s just in the evening when your spouse gets home from work), mother’s day breakfast, and on and on and on.  It doesn’t have to be an elaborate banner, it could just be a quick sign on the mirror, or post-it note in the car.

I made this banner for my husband’s birthday this year and hung it from two saw horses (his birthday present) in the garage.  I placed it in the garage facing outward so when he got home from work it was the first thing he saw.  Just a cool little surprise to show off his new toys.

How can you make someone’s day better this weekend?  Do it with a banner! Or note! Or sign of any sort!  Have a great weekend!

Saturday Simple Celebrations: Cheese Tray

Saturday Simple Celebrations is a series where I share quick, easy, entertaining ideas to make everyday celebrations a little extra special. In today’s post I’m talking cheese trays, yum!

Give me any reason to throw some yummy cheese and meats on a tray and I will!  I’m indifferent towards crackers, they get in the way of of all that creamy dairy and salty meat goodness in my opinion.

Recently we had a friend stop by to go for a dip in our pool mid afternoon. I threw this cheese tray together because who doesn’t love a little snack before, during, and after lounging in the pool?

I had half a wheel of brie and half a wedge of smoked gouda in the fridge so I cut it up into bite size chunks; paired it with what was left in the lunch meat drawer (salami and prosciutto) and put it next to some crackers. Super easy.

I also had some feta dip left over that I had made previously and put that in a dish along side some pita chips.  I’ll post the recipe soon because it’s really easy and made with everything I usually have in the refrigerator.

It really doesn’t take much more work to get out a nice platter to display your snacks and it looks better than leaving them in the original packaging.  I made sure to put the crackers next to the meats and cheeses and the pita chips next to the feta dip so our guest would know which vessel the snacks were supposed to go with.  Although if you mix it up that’s fine too.  You do you, I’m not judging your snacking game!

Super simple! What’s your favorite cheese? Do you share my cracker sentiment? Happy Saturday!
