Vintage Baseball Themed Nursery Reveal

Happy Friday!  I’m so excited to share this vintage baseball themed nursery with you today because we are just about a week out from meeting the little guy that’s going to occupy this room!  We’ve been working on pulling this room together over the last few months and I’m happy that it’s done before his arrival!Baseball themed nursery reveal, vintage baseball themed nursery, baseball decorIf you know my husband and I, you know that we’re kind of crazy baseball fans.  Specifically St. Louis Cardinals baseball, so coming up with this theme for our baby boy was a no brainer.  However, I didn’t want the room to scream baseball and be brightly colored, so the vintage or rustic aspect has helped keep that in check.

The lighting when I was taking the pictures isn’t the greatest, but you’ll get the idea.

Baseball themed nursery reveal, vintage baseball themed nursery, baseball decorThis is literally my favorite view in the entire room.  I’m obsessed with the baseball american flag art!  We purchased it from Etsy after deciding that would be much less of a headache than trying to make it ourselves.  I’m pretty sure it was the best decision we could have made.  It will totally grow with our little boy and can be used in so many other places in our house if he hates it as he grows up.

My husband did a great job of painting the accent wall.  I love how deep the Navy color is.  The paint is a Behr paint from Home Depot, but it was color matched to Sherwin Williams color Naval.

I’m also thinking that I may add a couple more things to the gallery wall.  We’ll see how it evolves over time.  The bookshelf is from World Market here, and it’s on super sale right now.  Get it while it’s cheaper, it’s super versatile and could be used all around your home.

I used some red wire baskets from Hobby Lobby to contain toys and blankets.  I also reused nautical baskets from my daughter’s nursery to hold hats and, swaddles, and burp cloths.  Baseball themed nursery reveal, vintage baseball themed nursery, baseball decorBaseball themed nursery reveal, vintage baseball themed nursery, baseball decorBaseball themed nursery reveal, vintage baseball themed nursery, baseball decorProbably my second favorite thing in the nursery is this lamp.  I found it at Homegoods because I was looking for a large glass container to hold used baseballs.  When I found this lamp and the opening was big enough for baseballs to fit inside, it was a win-win.  I get lighting and the look of baseballs in a glass container.  We were able to get a big bucket of used baseballs off of Craigslist super cheap which was nice.

Baseball themed nursery reveal, vintage baseball themed nursery, baseball decorA really amazing friend found baseball books, so those obviously had to go in the nursery.  The painted baseball mason jars are from my baby shower and were diyed by that same amazing friend!  You can get similar handcrafted baskets here if you’re interested.  Who doesn’t love buying something that’s going to give back.  Buying from the Field of Dreams Uganda organization is going to give hope to kids throughout Uganda.

Baseball themed nursery reveal, vintage baseball themed nursery, baseball decorOnto the closet.  We received literally two years worth of hand me downs from a friend.  We have no shortage of clothes around here.  Although we did have a shortage of clothing storage space, so we had to get a little creative in the closet.

Baseball themed nursery reveal, vintage baseball themed nursery, baseball decorWe added two stacked three drawer RAST dressers from Ikea to one side of the closet to hold all of the clothes we have. After a quick paint job and switching out the drawer pulls they are more on theme. The dressers keep all of the clothes tucked away and ready for little guy to grow into.

Baseball themed nursery reveal, vintage baseball themed nursery, baseball decorBaseball themed nursery reveal, vintage baseball themed nursery, baseball decorOn the other side of the closet we diyed some hanging bars and used the tucked away space on the side as a place to hang any clothes that didn’t have to go into drawers.  Doing something like this, especially in a nursery or kids room, is a great way to make use of typically wasted closet space.  We did something similar but with shelves in my daughter’s closet and it makes a world of storage difference.

So that’s pretty much it for the nursery.  I’m so glad the nursery is done and now it’s just waiting for our little guy to come check it out.  Only about a week left and he’ll be here!  What’s your favorite part of this reveal?

Hopefully soon, you’ll also get a reveal of the new big girl room we are working on after moving the crib into the nursery.  It’s a pretty fun room!

March Party Round Up

Happy Hump Day, Ash Wednesday, and the day after Mardi Gras!  So much to celebrate today!  Because it’s the first of the month, I’m doing a quick round up off all the potential celebrations coming up this month.  It’s a big month, so let’s get to it.

First, the whole month is dedicated to women’s history, and International Women’s Day is on March 8th.  You know I couldn’t really find a party that celebrates this day or month, so I may just have to throw one myself.

How fun would it be to host a girls day with a historical flair celebrating strong women in history who’ve done great things?  I’m thinking a ladies lunch where each place setting is named after a women in history with some interesting facts about her.  Or you could have a spa day with all of your girlfriends.  Or have a sleepover with your girl friends and watch some historical movies about women.

Next up is of course St. Patrick’s Day on March 17th.  It’s such an interesting holiday for all ages, right?  Adults get to drink a lot of green beer and kids wear green to school and almost have permission to pinch anyone who isn’t in green.  Weird!

This St. Patrick’s Day party speaks to both the adults and the kids with just the right amount of green.  I love the ideas on dressing up the cupcakes and desserts with gold coins and shamrocks.

Shortly after St. Patrick’s Day is the first day of Spring on March 20th.  Who isn’t ready for spring and warmer temperatures?  I know I am, unfortunately, we had snow yesterday.  Oh Colorado!

I found two really fun Spring Fling parties that would be a great reason to celebrate spring.  They both have a ton of bright colors and fun ideas.

This party has a lot of little spring details that are great, and I’m loving that spring fling banner.  How about that faux grass to really dress up this food station?  It totally screams spring!

This brightly colored party is perfect for spring.  That Spring backdrop is entirely made of jelly beans!  How cool, and cost effective, right? I also love that this party incorporates flowers by planting some in those little terracotta pots.  That would be the perfect favor for your guests at your spring fling party.

Lastly, this party isn’t technically in March since the finals are scheduled for April 1-2, but March Madness is a great thing to celebrate this month.  I love that this party is geared towards girls with plenty of orange colors, basketball themed snacks, and the most adorable EOS lip balm party favor.  Be sure to click the link to get the download and make your own favors.  How great is that chalkboard bracket too?

I thought I’d throw in a monthly recipe for March too.  Green onions and leeks are really in season now, and leeks are something I’ve only cooked with one time.  They were really good when I did, so I’m excited to try this recipe too.  Click on the photo caption to get the full recipe, but I love that it’s a one pan meal that only takes about 30 minutes.

What do you plan on celebrating this month?  I’d love to hear so post in the comments or let me know on Instagram with the hashtag, #thedailyhostess, on leave a comment on my Facebook page.

Real Life Party: Baseball or Bows Themed Gender Reveal

This past weekend, we hosted a very special celebration.  We got to find out if our next baby is going to be a boy or a girl!  Yep, that’s right, I’M PREGNANT!  I decided on a baseballs or bows themed gender reveal, and you’ll see at the end of this post what we’re going to be having.

I’ll let most of the pictures do the talking.  We hosted the party on Saturday morning at 11 am, so I offered a light lunch and dessert.  Obviously, everyone, including us were mostly excited about the big reveal.

I made a table runner out of white craft paper and just drew navy blue baseball stitching on the paper.  Then added a few extra pink bows around the table.

Enjoy this Baseballs or Bows Gender Reveal Party complete with a confetti popper gender reveal!I set up a “fake” chalkboard using a piece of black construction paper for our guests to take their guess at what the baby was going to be.  At the end of the party, I glanced and the baseball column had an overwhelming number of votes.

Enjoy this Baseballs or Bows Gender Reveal Party complete with a confetti popper gender reveal! For decor I made some baseball and bow garlands that were added to our mantle and on the dessert table backdrop.  I did learn after cutting all of the bows and baseballs out by hand that it’s about time to get a Cricut machine.  I could have saved so much time using it instead of scissors.

First, measure how long you need the streamer to be before cutting your fringe.  I made four reeeeeaaalllly long streamers and only ended up using two of them because I could just cut them in half.  Now I’ve got some leftover streamers that haven’t been used, but are fringed.  Also, the fringe comes off the wall quite a bit.  This protrusion made us have to bring the desserts to the front of the table and have a little less space for dessert.  Just be aware that they won’t lay flat against the wall.

Enjoy this Baseballs or Bows Gender Reveal Party complete with a confetti popper gender reveal! This is a better angle of my naked cake.  I used a boxed white cake mix, this buttercream recipe, and also added a berry compote between the layers.  It turned out so pretty, just a little lopsided.  I torted the top layer and ended up taking a little too much off of one side.  I’m not afraid to say that I am so proud of myself and how this cake turned out.

Around the World Themed Olympics Party

Who’s ready for the summer games?  We’re only about a week away from the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.  Are you the type of person that loves the Olympics and watches every event, gets super patriotic, and goes for gold?

olympicrings
Is there a better way to celebrate the games than by having a viewing party?  It’s a great excuse to get your friends together and cheer for the USA.

I’ve put together a few ideas to get your party started.  I’ve got all the things you need to celebrate all the countries around the world.

The Food

Invite all of your friends from different backgrounds and ask them to bring a dish or drink that represents the country they are from.  Or ask your friends to bring a dish from a country they’d like to visit.  This is a great way to try some authentic food from around the world.  We’re so lucky to have neighbors from India which let us try a lot of goodies from their tandoori grill.  We also have some great Filipino friends that always show up with lumpia.

The Decor

There is no better way to decorate than by incorporating the flags from the countries that compete at the Olympics.  There are so many ways to include them.  Hang flags as a garland, use them on the food labels so everyone knows where the dish comes from, and use them to make a centerpiece.  And don’t forget to use the Olympic rings as part of your decor.  I’d recommend buying some foam wreath forms, spray painting them to look like Olympic rings then hot glue them together for a large back drop or even as front door decor.

The Games

While watching the opening ceremonies or your favorite event of the Olympics, it’s a great idea to get all of your guests involved and have some fun with games.  There are a ton of “minute to win it” type games that would be perfect for this party.  Playing a guessing game during the opening ceremonies is a great idea too.  Have your guests guess the country with the smallest number of people and largest number, the closest guess wins. Another easy game option is to have everyone take a flag button for every country they’ve visited, the person with the most buttons wins!

It’s fairly obvious, but using gold medals as prizes or favors is a must.

Kids Activities

It would be easy to involve any kids attending your party in the party games.  However, if the kids need an activity to keep them busy, here is a great tutorial on making Olympic torches.  Kids love to craft, and this one is so fitting for an Olympics viewing party.

I’d recommend having the gold “handles” of the torches already painted so all the kids would need to do is assemble the torches.  It would also be a fun idea to make a bunch of these and group them together for a centerpiece.

Now that you’ve got everything from the food, games, decor, and activities covered, all you need to do is gather your friends up and invite them over to watch the Olympics.  It’s always a fun time to get patriotic and cheer on your country.  Unfortunately, since we cut the cable cord, we’ll have to find alternative ways to watch all of the popular events.

Father’s Day for the Dad that Entertains

So this weekend is Father’s Day, and like most Hallmark holidays, I have waited until the last minute to get any sort of gift to celebrate the dad’s in my life.  Do you do that?  I hope I’m not the only one.

If you are like me and need a gift quick, I’ve put together a few items, that thanks to Amazon Prime shipping, you’ll have in at most two days! #whatdidwedobeforeamazonprime These gifts are great ideas for the dad who likes to entertain, throw parties, and celebrate with his buddies.  Hopefully you can find something for your dad and get it to him in time for Father’s Day.

This pizza oven would be a great alternative for all of those year’s you got your Dad bbq gear.  It’s still the same concept but with a fun twist.  Help your dad throw a “build your own pizza” party in the backyard instead of another bbq.  Have everyone bring their own toppings while you supply the crust, sauce, and cheese, then see what kind of crazy combinations everyone can come up with!

While you’re waiting on your pizza to cook, play a round of washers.  Any sort of backyard game is a great gift for dad.  They are also great to get your guests up and doing an activity rather than just sitting around and chatting.  A little competition is never a bad idea.

For the dad that likes wine, and more so likes wine on the go, these silicon, no break cups are perfect.  They also come with this carrying bag to store a bottle of wine.  I could see this gift being used on a picnic, at the beach or pool where no glass is allowed, or on a hike.

Does your dad like to play cards or have poker nights with his buddies?  I know this gift is pink, but he’ll still love to make poker themed ice for his friend’s when they come to play poker.  You can also use this for chocolate molds, but I don’t know too many dads willing to put the time in to make that, haha!

After all the parties your dad is going to have with his fun new gifts, he may need an easy breakfast to help him recover.  This breakfast sandwich maker will do just that.  All you have to do is throw in the ingredients and it makes the sandwich for you.  It couldn’t be any easier!

So now that you have some great ideas for Father’s Day, all you have to do it use Amazon Prime to get it to him just in time for his big day!  Which gift would your dad love?
