Welcome back to a new week, and Happy Memorial Day! It’s a day to remember those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  If you need something lighthearted and fun to listen to as you remember those today then give the newest podcast episode a listen.  On this episode I’m joined by my party hosting loving sister-in-law Joanna Long.

We talk about lots of catering tips that you can use at your own home party. There is so much good advice for how to transition from little kid parties to tween and teen birthday parties. You’ll also hear encouraging news about how to make friends as an adult especially when you move around a lot.  It’s a great interview, listen now!

What I’m Binge-ing

On this week’s segment of what I’ve been binge-ing I give you two great podcast recommendations.

They are great if you want a behind the scenes look at the lives of the stars on reality TV’s Vanderpump Rules.  Both are just mindless entertainment that we can all use right now during a global pandemic.

This Week’s Episode

This week I interviewed my sister-in-law Joanna Long, because she is an expert hostess and makes all of her parties look so effortless.  There wouldn’t have been anyone else I would want on the podcast as my first official guest.  She’s so talented at throwing a party!

Conversations with the Hostess podcast episode 3, catering tips, tween party ideas, and volunteeringWe talk about all of her catering experience and how to incorporate tricks of the trade into your own home parties.

Then we have a lengthy discussion about how to transition from little kid parties to more grown up tween and teen parties.  Plus, there’s a good mix of motherly advice thrown in as well.

If you have young kids you should definitely listen to this episode.

Joanna also shares a lot about how to make friends and build a community through several moves.  Her family has moved three times over the past several years and her advice for settling in is great.  Not just if you’re moving, but if you need a little encouragement to try something new to make friends and find your tribe.

One of the way’s Joanna has connected to her community is through volunteering.  She talked with me about the Adventure Playground committee she was a part of, be sure to check it out here.  It’s such a great cause to create inclusive playground equipment for kids with physical disabilities.  Does your area have anything like this?

Takeaways

What was your biggest takeaway from this episode?

I think I’m going to be reevaluating how I serve dinner to my kids realizing that it’s a time for them to learn how to host in their future.  That comment totally blew my mind!
