Read on for 7 ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at home. At home celebrations make the day fun without having to pay babysitters, fight crowds, or plan days in advance for your celebration.
I’ve said it once (or a million times) and I’ll say it again. Celebrating all the little things at home are easy, fun, and will make amazing memories.
St. Patrick’s Day is one of those small days to celebrate that can make such a fun memory. Doing some simple little things at home makes the day more exciting than your average Tuesday.
It doesn’t take much time, money, or supplies to make the day special. I’m one of the worst about planning ahead for things.
Case in point, my kids are on their term break starting April 3rd and out of school for three weeks. I haven’t booked any sort of travel, camps, or planned fun activities for them yet. One of the main reasons we decided to take a job and move to England was because it would allow us to travel. But I really need to get in the groove of planning months in advance in order to do that. #thingsweneedtoworkon
Anyway, all of that to say that at home celebrations are my jam. Because they usually don’t take too much pre-planning and I typically have all the supplies that I would need to make it a fun event.
I’m sure if you wait until the last minute like me to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day you’ll be able to whip out all of these ideas to create a fun day for your family. And you probably won’t have to run to the store ahead of time or figure things out weeks in advance. These are simple ideas, promise!
7 Simple At Home Celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day
1. Wrap It Up
First up is one of the easiest party tricks. Use wrapping paper for everything! Wrap gifts, line tables, use it for backdrops, the list goes on and on with things you can do with wrapping paper. Try this simple garland idea to add a flare of green to your house for St. Patrick;s Day.
2. Delicious Themed Snacks
The next best way to have an at home celebration for any occasion is with snacks. My kids are snack maniacs and would rather have snacks all day then meals. Are you in the same boat?
Breaking up the normal snack rotation with a fun themed snack makes the day more special and is an easy way to celebrate at home. Plus, who doesn’t love an Oreo?
3. Easy At Home Activities
Doing an age appropriate activity is another simple way to celebrate an event at home. Whether your kids are older and you can put Google to use and research what St. Patrick’s Day is all about, or if your kids are younger and enjoy crafts an activity to break up the normal routine is a great at home celebration.
I created a simple scavenger hunt printable that I’ll re-share with you again. This activity only requires you to print out some papers and plan a super easy scavenger hunt around your house. Literally no prep work on your part.
You could make this work for older kids too by making the scavenger hunt more difficult or include the fun facts of St. Patrick’s Day you researched.
4. Rainbow Wreath Decor
If you want to put a little more effort into your decor, try this tutorial. To adapt this for St. Patrick’s day, I’d recommend using flowers in a rainbow pattern (you know, ROYGBV). Use the wreath on the table for the week of St. Patrick’s Day or as a backdrop to a St. Patrick’s Day snack table.
5. Everything is Better With Confetti
Making confetti poppers is literally the easiest thing you can do to celebrate anything. And I guarantee you have all of the supplies for this little DIY.
Do you have tissue paper stored away somewhere? Then you can make these poppers. Use green tissue paper and put gold confetti inside to be on theme.
Or just tear up whatever paper you have and stick it inside. It doesn’t need to be green, gold, or rainbow themed to still be fun!
My kids especially like using the vacuum cleaner to vacuum up all the little bits of confetti. I think it’s a win-win if they enjoy “popping” them and then cleaning up afterwards.
6. Taste the Rainbow
What better way to have an at home celebration than with a balloon arch? Balloons and party are pretty synonymous aren’t they?
This tutorial is still the best performing content I’ve ever created, so I’m sure you’ll be able to execute this along with the thousands of others that have.
Use rainbow balloons and a be sure to add some gold ones at the end of your rainbow.
7. Grown Up Celebrations At Home
The kids can’t have all the fun with their snacks and confetti poppers. The adults need a little fun too.
And that’s where having a St. Patrick’s Day themed bar cart comes into play. Adding some green decor to your bar cart filled with themed snacks and drinks makes it so much more festive.
Take the ideas from this Cinco de Mayo themed bar cart and add green pinwheels, banners, and honeycombs to make a little at home St. Patrick’s Day celebration central.
I know these ideas might seem like they would take a lot of pre-planning and thought, but they really don’t. It’s like that thing that’s been on your to do list for several months and then when you actually do it it only takes about 15 minutes.
Same with throwing a little at home celebration! And St. Patrick’s day is the perfect day to celebrate.
I hope these ideas give you some inspiration for your own at home celebration or at least give you something to reference when it’s March 16th and you feel like you need to do something special with not a lot of time left before St. Patrick’s Day.
