Happy Tuesday! Were you aware that one week from today is Cinco de Mayo! I know, I know, it might not be as much fun without being able to go to your favorite Mexican restaurant or celebrate with friends. But I’ve got a really fun alternative for you today!
Do you remember seeing the meme going around at the beginning of the year how a bunch of really fun celebrations line up perfectly with dates this year? Well that includes Cinco de Mayo landing on Taco Tuesday! It couldn’t be better!
However, with all of the shelter in place, lockdown, quarantine situations around the world you won’t be able to celebrate like you normally would.
Hopefully the ideas I give you today will allow you to celebrate at home and have just as much fun. The best part is that all that I’m sharing can be purchased on Amazon Prime and to your door before next Tuesday!
Cinco de Mayo Food Buffet
The best part of Cinco de Mayo is the food, amiright? So setting up a taco bar, chips and dip bar, or quesadilla station will make dinner a lot more fun at home.
I don’t want you to just set up dinner as usual though, I think throwing in a little party decor, some fun plates, balloons even, will make the day so much more fun.
Here are some ideas to set up a Cinco de Mayo food buffet:
- Taco bar
- I really like this checklist for getting all of your sides and toppings taken care of
- Queso station
- Chips and dip station with salsa, guacamole, bean dip, seven layer dip
- Quesadilla station
- Make your own Taco Bowl
And if you aren’t feeling like making all of your own food (I mean that’s all I’ve done three times a day for months!) then call your local Mexican restaurant and see if they are doing delivery or curbside pick up.
There’s nothing better than some Mexican restaurant tortilla chips is there?
Cinco de Mayo Drink Station
If you don’t want to hassle with getting the food all set up and on a buffet, then maybe just make a drink station. You can do a little bar cart or set up on a table.
Again, I recommend throwing in some fun themed napkins, a Mexican blanket works great to help keep any spills contained, and colored straws are always a good idea.
Here are some drink station ideas that will have you ready to say cheers!
- Margarita bar
- Virgin Watermelon Slushies
- Sangria Bar
- Kids Lemonade Station with different fruits to mix in
I recently mixed some frozen berries into apple juice and added some fizzy soda water for a special drink for my kids and you would have thought they had hit the jackpot.
Basically, it doesn’t take much effort to mix up the ordinary and have a special party at home.
Cinco de Mayo Dessert Bar
If you want to just save the best for last, try using this party set up for a dessert bar. There are so many good Mexican themed desserts that would work perfectly on Cinco de Mayo.
- Ice Cream party Choco Tacos
- Churro dipping stations with a variety of dipping sauces like chocolate, caramel, Nutella, whipped cream, the options are endless!
- Dessert Nachos using cinnamon flavored chips with a variety of toppings
Setting Up Your At Home Cinco de Mayo Party
To set up a fun party at home you’ll need to designate one area party central. This could be your dining table, a side table (like I used), or a desk that you move from another room.
Basically, don’t be afraid to move things around or use items at home in different ways.
Next, lay a Mexican blanket across the table and then add all kinds of fun stuff to the buffet station.
- Themed napkins
- Multi colored serving dishes
- Cinco de Mayo Party Hats
- Confetti
- Themed plates
- Succulents
- Themed straws
- Sombreros
- A balloon garland (tutorial here)
