What’s In the Episode
I loved hearing Ashley’s heart for the international community has been a theme woven throughout her entire life. Here are some highlights of this episode.
- The beginning of Ashley’s journey with the international community was during a college trip to Serbia. Interestingly enough, the people of Serbia play another role in Ashley’s life later.
- She is married to an Argentinian and has taught English in Argentina. This is where her in-laws have taught her the art of slow entertaining and enjoying being present with your guests.
- Ashley continued working with international populations when she joined the board of Field of Dreams Uganda, an organization that uses soccer to bring hope to youth in Uganda. The people of Uganda and their hospitality touched Ashley so much that her family decided to adopt from their. They also adopted their daughter from the Dominican Republic of Congo. They have a very diverse family with their immediate members of their family being born in four different countries!
- Because her family is so spread out between North and South America and Europe, she tells us how they try to stay in touch.
- Ashley shares really amazing insight into building friendships after moving and how it takes longevity.
- I love her approach to making people feel welcome in your home and at your gatherings using the five senses. Using intentional hospitality without being fancy is her approach.
- Ashley is great about entertaining outdoors and shares a lot of ways to make it affordable for everyone to do.
This was a great conversation revealing just how similar people are all around the world and how we all just want to feel at ease when at someone’s home. Be sure to check out the organizations that Ashley volunteers for and to see their mission.
