Moving Series: Moving Bucket List
It’s been slow around here lately because we are in the middle of getting ready for our big move. You can learn more about that here.
I thought it would be a great idea to put together a little moving series. So over the next few weeks, I’ll be talking about all things moving. How to celebrate it, pack and organize before a move, and ways to make moving less stressful.
First up this week is a way to celebrate your upcoming move. For us we have less than two months until we officially move and less than four weeks until the packers get here. It’s time to start crossing things off of our bucket list (and the to do list).
When you move as many times as we have it’s exciting to experience the different things that places have to offer. It’s one of the main reasons I love moving around as much as we do.
In doing so we make a ton of new friends that will be dear friends for the rest of our lives. So we always try to memorialize the people and places we’ve lived. A great place to start is this fun printable I put together with different ways to remember the place you’ve lived before you move.
Maybe it will give you a few ideas of fun things to do too. Do you have a move coming up?

Be sure to read on to see why I think these things would be so fun and how to do them.
12 Ways to Make Memories Before Moving
- You can never go wrong with taking pictures of you with your friends or family that you will be leaving behind. To make the memory more concrete, compile pictures you’ve taken into a photo album. It can be an old school printed out album or a modern file that’s uploaded to a digital picture frame.
- I’m sure no matter where you live there is some sort of scenic area. Go there and do a hike, take pictures, or visit the nature of the area you’ll be moving from.
- Hosting one last celebration is such a great way to be sent off. We’re pretty excited for the food truck that we rented for our going away party! This is also a great time to get rid of any last items you may need to purge.
- Every place we’ve lived has had different cuisine. I’m sure where you live has it’s own local delicacy too. Go to your favorite restaurant or favorite place to get the treat that your city or town is known for. You may not be able to find it in your new hometown.
- We just sold our house and I will be sure to get a photo of our family in front of our home before we move. It’s always hard to leave a place that you’ve made your home. Having a photo you can look back on is a great way to make a lasting memory.
- There are so many fun monuments and museum’s that you may not even know of in your city. Try visiting some and learn a little something about the place you’re moving from.
- Attending a local festival, farmer’s market, or concert is a great way to soak up your city one last time.
- Leaving friend’s is the hardest part of moving. But if you always want to remember them try making something together. Go to a painting or pottery class together so you’ll always have the same piece of art. For my daughter I plan on making a photo book with all of her friends in it. Or my neighbor had the great idea of doing a Build a Bear with the speaking part inside of their friends voice. I’m sure she’s going to cherish that thing for such a long time.
- Volunteering one last time before moving is a great way to impact the community that you’ve lived in.
- There is no better way to see a city than running through it. If you’ve never run or walked a race in your city it’s a great thing to do before moving. You’ll get to see areas you’ve never known were even there. Plus doing something active will relieve some of that moving stress.
- One thing we’ve done everywhere we’ve lived is buy a piece of art that reminds us of that place. We have a map of the Hawaiian islands, paintings of Point Loma in San Diego, and we’re on the hunt for a special piece of Colorado art.
- And lastly, moving out of your house is a big deal so enjoying one last meal surrounded by boxes picnic style is such a fun memory. Order the pizza or get take out and plop down in the middle of the floor one last time around a meal with your family.
If you’re moving anytime soon, I hope you try to create some lasting memories. It’s so special to enjoy a place for a few (or a lot of) years and celebrate the time you’ve spent there before moving.
If you’ve moved at all do you have any special things you’ve done to celebrate the place you’ve moved from?
Be sure to click the list above so you can print it off and check things off as you’re gearing up for your move.
There will be more to come in this fun moving series we’re doing. I hope you enjoy it and if you have any requests for types of moving posts, be sure to let me know at thedailyhostess@gmail.com.
