This week’s episode was so fun, because I got to catch up with a friend I haven’t talked to in awhile. Plus, I learned all about how to be a brave gluten free party guest from who I consider to be the gluten free expert!

What I’m Binge-ing
This week’s binge-ing segment is something I’m really proud I finally figured out. I’ve been practicing french braids on my daughter and now I’m semi-confident to do it to myself.
I’ve bee french braiding my hair when it’s wet after a shower and then after a couple days I have the best natural beachy waves. It’s a great way to get my hair up and out of my way for a couple days and then get to enjoy it for a couple more when it looks like I’ve been to the beach. Win-win!
However, braiding your own hair is hard! So I recommend starting by practicing on someone else.

How to Be a Brave Party Guest
I loved my conversation with Jenny Fink from Good for you Gluten Free because even if you aren’t gluten free there were so many helpful tips to hosting someone that is gluten free.
Jenny is the gluten free expert in my opinion so I was so grateful for her openness about approaching the subject of dietary restrictions when hosting. Here’s a sneak peek at the things we talked about.
Building a Collaborative Blogging Community
- Jenny started the Denver Bloggers Club because she wanted to connect and learn from other bloggers. She has since grown it into an amazing community of professional bloggers. She has great ideas on building a community of people you want to learn and grow with.
- What she has done reminds me a lot of what Kate Starkey has done with the Cheltenham MumBoss Club. You can hear her episode here.
- Jenny also has great advice on how to take your in person events to a virtual environment and how Zoom works best. She’s moving her large in person Fuel Your Influence Conference, a one day conference for bloggers and influencers, to an online platform and realized increasing the content is going to balance out not being able to network in person. Check out that link and you may just see a face you recognize.
Being a Brave Gluten Free Party Guest
- I loved the honest and straight forward advice Jenny gave about the importance of communicating your needs before an event or party when you have a dietary restriction.
- She also goes through the levels of bravery need to communicate those needs.
- Listening to her talk about the challenges of eating outside of her home gave me anxiety, but it’s the reality she faces. And it’s good to know the experiences of others because that’s how we learn and grow to have understanding and connection.
- I got so much useful information from our conversation on food safety when preparing a meal for someone with a dietary restriction. There are definitely some things I need to start incorporating into my routine.
- I so appreciate Jenny being open about her Jewish faith and how her dietary restriction has caused her to celebrate religious holidays and events with gluten free alternatives. Definitely a learning experience for me!
