10 Practical Graduation Gifts That Will Get Used

by | Apr 25, 2019 | Gifts

Welcome back from the Easter holiday.  I hope you had a great time celebrating with family and friends.  We hosted a big brunch for our neighbors and friends.  But one of my sister-in-law’s and her family was actually here, so it was so nice celebrating with family too!

How did you celebrate?  Be sure to comment in the comments section or send me a DM on Instagram!  I love seeing and hearing how others celebrate all of these fun occasions.

Don’t you feel like everything is starting to get busier this time of year?  The weather’s nicer so there are more events, bridal showers, baby showers, and graduations.

Graduations are always something that feel difficult for people to figure out what to gift.  There are about a million fun ways on Pinterest to gift money in clever ways.  Money is always a great gift for those that are celebrating their graduation, so I’m not knocking it.

But if you want to give a tangible gift, I rounded up 10 practical ideas below.  I think they are super functional and would be really appreciated by anyone graduating from either high school or college.

My husband and I always try to gift each other practical things, because it’s those things that we end up using the most.  Using that idea when gift giving for graduation will be more helpful to the graduate than you probably realize.  So let’s get to it!

10 Practical Graduation Gift Ideas

1. Personal Finance Book

I knew I could trust my husband when I told him I wanted to include this kind of gift in my gift guide.

He has a passion for personal finance, he even majored in it in college.  But he’s even more passionate about how uneducated most people are in managing their finances and making their money work for them.

So when I asked for his recommendation for a personal finance book for someone graduating high school or college, Set For Life was his recommendation.

He said it’s great for anyone in that stage of life because it gives you practical ways to make decisions when you’re young that will make a major impact on how “set up” you are later in life.

So give it to any young adult that wants to do a few things now that will benefit them financially later! Just click the picture below to read the reviews on Amazon and purchase the book.

2. New Backpack, Messenger Bag, or Briefcase

Chances are any graduate is going to need a new bag to either hold expensive college textbooks or to look more professional when job hunting.

All of these are great options and highly reviewed.  Give them a click to see!

3. Gas Gift Card

Are you the adult or parent that takes care of things for your child like gas, oil changes, or vehicle maintenance?  You know all of those adult things?

Well why not give them the means to do those things on their own?  A gas gift card, oil change gift card, or maintenance check up for their vehicle is a way to help them learn to do more of those adult things!

4. Amazon Gift Card

Still on the gift card idea, who wouldn’t be able to use something (or everything) from Amazon.  This would also make a great gift for a graduate that lives further away since you can electronically gift a gift card.

Or maybe you aren’t sure what the graduate would like, this is always a great option.  Literally anything they could need for school, a first apartment, or a new job.  Just click below to get one!

5. Power Bank Charger

I think by definition I fall into the “Millennial” generation, although I don’t identify with them.  But most graduates these days are Millennials and constantly on their phones.  So a back up power bank is an excellent gift that I’m sure they’ll use basically non-stop.

This one has over 10,000 reviews and a 4.5 star rating, so you know it’s a good choice.

6. Start Today Journal

Ever since last fall, I’ve been really into how Rachel Hollis delivers her message of striving to be a better version of yourself.  What better way for a grad to start their more grown up life than with a growth mindset?

The Start Today journal helps you to focus each day on gratitude and the dreams you plan to make a reality.  Setting that intention daily will help any young adult start their lives on a path of growth and endless possibilities.

There aren’t many left, so if you want to gift this, click the link up by number six and get it today.

It may even be a great gift for yourself.

7. Luggage Tags

What better way for that new graduate to be set for their first “grown up” spring break than with fun new luggage tags?  I love these because they have a metal loop to secure them to your bag.

This would also be a really practical graduation gift for someone you know that is planning on doing a gap year to travel.

You can make this gift even better when you slide some case into the luggage tag.

8. Stitch Fix Subscription

Any college grad that is out job searching and interviewing probably needs to step up their wardrobe game.  But it’s expensive to buy all new professional attire.  So a Stitch Fix subscription can help to alleviate that burden.

With your super practical gift they’ll start their new career in style.

9. Custom T-Shirt

Click here for this Denver Coordinates t-shirt.

A t-shirt may not be the most exciting or practical graduation gift.  But when it has the latitude and longitude of the graduates home on it, it’s extra special.

This is great for someone that may tend to get a little homesick.  Or for those moms that want their kids to always know how to get back home.

Plus I adore the company that makes these t-shirts. You can use my affiliate link to shop all of their clever t-shirts and cute kids clothes too.  Perfect place for any baby showers you might have coming up.

10. Hello Fresh Subscription

Worrying about where your next meal is going to come from or how you’re going to pay for it is sometimes a real struggle when you’re in college.  Hello Fresh, or any other meal delivery service, offers gift cards for meals.

As a parent it would be so nice knowing that your child is going to get at least a certain number of meals a week that are healthy, easy to make, and free for them.

Such a great gift for a someone moving into their first apartment too.

What’s the Best Graduation Gift You Received?

Even though I don’t have any graduates to buy for, I think these would make a very practical gift for anyone anytime.  I would want most of them for myself, haha!

I remember getting some really good graduation gifts for college, but they weren’t all that practical.  So what’s the best graduation gift you ever received?  Was it practical and useful or something that sat on a shelf and was never used?

I hope these ideas give you some relief when it comes to this upcoming graduation season.

Cute ideas! Kitchen basics are a great gift, too. Usually a lot of home goods are required to go from dorm to apartment living.
